API CLIENT ANGELA TINCHER’S GREAT WEEK CONTINUES Akron Racer Follows up Perfect Game with 2-hit Shutout
BALTIMORE, MD – Former NCAA Softball Player of the Year, Virginia Tech graduate and API Sports client Angela Tincher (Eagle Rock, VA) has enjoyed a spectacular week on the mound for the Akron Racers, recording a six-inning perfect game in an 11-0 victory Saturday at Philadelphia and a complete-game 2-hitter Thursday in a 1-0 win against the USSSA Pride.
Tincher, whose resurgence has been a part of a run that has seen the Racers win eight of their last nine games to move into second place in the NPF and improve to 14-8, has not allowed a run in her last 13 innings. Over that span she has permitted just two hits, while striking out 15 and walking none (one hit batter).
“I felt like I had been guiding the ball and not really throwing it,” Tincher said, “so last weekend in Philly I decided to just let it fly and see what happened. So far that approach has been pretty successful.”
Tincher was perfect through six innings Saturday against the Force, striking out nine before the game was ruled official after a thunderstorm swept through Allentown. Thursday she allowed just two hits vs. the Pride while striking out nine in improving her record to 5-1 on the season. In 40 innings thus far in 2009 Tincher has allowed just 21 hits and nine walks to go along with her 43 strikeouts.
The Racers are in Orlando facing the Pride the rest of this week, with Tincher’s most likely start coming Saturday night.
