API CLIENT TINCHER NAMED ALL-NPF FOR 2ND STRAIGHT YEAR Former NCAA Player of the Year Continues Success at the Pro Level
AKRON, OHIO –Former NCAA softball Player of the Year Angela Tincher (Eagle Rock, VA) has been named to the All-National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Team for the second consecutive year, the league has announced. The Virginia Tech graduate and current member of the Akron Racers was one of six Akron players to earn All-NFP honors.
Joining Tincher as the league’s other All-NPF pitchers are teammate Lisa Norris, Eileen Canney of the Chicago Bandits and Cat Osterman of the Rockford Thunder. Other Racers named to the All-NFP squad include Kenora Posey (second base), Jackie Pasquerella (third base), Lisa Modglin (outfield) and designated player Crystl Bustos.
Tincher, who most recently was a member of the United States team that captured the gold medal at the Pan Am Qualifier in Venezuela and is under contract with Leopalace 21 of the Japanese professional league, has enjoyed an extremely successful sophomore campaign with the Racers, going 6-2 with a 1.78 ERA and seven complete games in nine starts. In 59 innings of work Tincher has allowed just 38 hits while striking out 67 and walking 20. She has a perfect game to her credit and at one point compiled a streak of consecutive scoreless innings that reached 21.
The Racers, who finished the season in second place with a 26-14 record after closing the campaign by taking four of five games from regular-season champion Chicago, open postseason play tonight at 8:45 p.m. in Akron against third-seeded Rockford. Game 2 vs. Rockford is slated for the same time Friday. Both games can be seen live online at www.profastpitch.com.
Following the playoffs Tincher will be returning to Japan for the second half of her season there, but not before she is the maid of honor in former Hokie and current Racer teammate Kelsey Hoffman’s wedding at the end of August.
